Marion wrestling team gets four wins at Carterville Duals

CARTERVILLE -- The Marion Wildcats wrestling team competed in the Carterville Duals and picked up four wins Saturday.
Marion finished the day with a 54-10 win over Edwardsville Metro East Lutheran in which the Wildcats received four forfeits
Gaige Owens and Lydell Hoskins notched pins in the lighter weights, while River Flute, Rohan Cook and Michael Cerv also earned pins.
Before that, the Wildcats defeated Fairfield, 45-36, with both teams taking two forfeits each.
Marion got early pins from Gaige Kent and Riley Winters, with Kaden Barber, Landon White and Flute also getting pinfalls. Daniel Gilley won a dramatic 9-8 decision as well.
The Wildcats also beat Anna-Jonesboro, 51-30, and Effingham, 48-35. Marion took five forfeits against Effingham.
Winters, Hoskins, Barber and Cook won by pin against A-J, with Charlie Neill also collecting a 12-11 win by decision.
Michael Cantrell's only match of the day came against Effingham's Dylan Lounger and the two-time state qualifier won by pin in 45 seconds.
Hoskins and Flute also pinned their opponents in the Effingham match.
Marion wrestles at Sikeston on Wednesday, then heads to the Murdale Tournament in Carbondale on Friday and Saturday.
