MJHS girls avenge loss to Harrisburg

MARION -- The Marion Junior High School girls basketball team avenged one of its three losses with a 51-40 victory over Harrisburg on Monday night.
Marion is now 11-3 this season and has won three straight in the month of December, having now beat Massac, Benton and Harrisburg. The three losses came to Herrin, Harrisburg and Centralia.
The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first quarter behind six points from Grace Connor, who finished with a game-high 14.
Jerzy Bittle canned a 3-pointer and four free throws in the second period to help Marion take a 25-11 lead into the break. Karris Rhine also had four points in the frame.
Connor put in eight more points in the third, which ended with Marion leading 41-25.
Bittle tallied 13 points and Lily Garrett had seven, while Margaux Bruce added five points and both Rhine and Baylee Kelley had four. Presley Barnett and Maleah Hunt chipped in two apiece and Sarah Capel hit a free throw.
Chelsea Davidson led Harrisburg with 10 points. Stream Black had nine.
Marion's seventh graders won 46-16 and are 14-0 this season.
MJHS plays at Carbondale on Tuesday.
