The Harrisburg boys' bowling team hosted its own invitational Saturday, finishing in the middle of the pack in a 12-team field.
The Bulldogs were sixth, while Belleville East came out on top with a 5912 total. Anna-Jonesboro and Mt. Vernon were second and third, respectively.
Sebastian Barton was the top bowler for Harrisburg with a 1356 for the six games, a 226 average for the day. Brody Irvin had a 1190 and Brenden Mitchell posted a 1062.
"It was a rather disappointing day on Saturday," Harrisburg head coach Doug Cottom said. "Although we probably couldn't have gotten to the top spot, we certainly should have been in the top three. Sebastian had his best outing of the year for sure. There were a few other bright spots, but overall, we need to be better."
On Friday, Harrisburg battled Marion with the girls falling 2059-1591 and the boys losing 2713-2496.
Elizabeth Davis had three 2220 games for the girls' team, while Brody Irvin (613) and Brenden Mitchell (607) were tops for the boys.
"The girls' match ended up being lopsided, so I substituted freely all evening long," Cottom said. "No one played all three games in the varsity match. On the boys' side, Brody and Brenden were solid, but that was about it. We are really searching for our fourth and fifth player right now. As in all sports, you have to have five clicking at all times to be real competitive and right now, we are not."
The Harrisburg boys and girls' team will welcome Carbondale on Wednesday and Massac County Thursday, followed by the Belleville East Invitational on Saturday for both teams.
