MARION -- The Marion High School girls tennis team celebrated Senior Night with an 8-1 win over Benton on Thursday.

And although the Lady Wildcats have one more match scheduled at the Crisp Sports Complex, seniors Kaitlyn Hill and Elaina Vanderflught both won on their special evening.

Hill was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at No. 5, while Vanderflught swept her way to a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3.

Also winning in singles for Marion were Ana Cuartas, Nicole Szidik, Carrie Graham and Kelsey Watson. The win for Szidik continued her unbeaten singles streak for the season.

In doubles, Vanderflught and Szidik teamed up for a 6-2, 6-4 win with darkness approaching. Graham and Zoe Boatright battled to a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3.

Benton won the first set at No. 2 and there wasn't enough light to continue, giving the Rangerettes the team point.

Marion is 14-11 in dual matches this season.

The Lady Wildcats play at Carbondale's tournament on Saturday, then host Carmi next Wednesday.
