MJHS boys track team wins own invitational meet

MARION -- The Marion Junior High School boys track and field team held an invitational meet Monday and easily beat out Herrin, Centralia, Carbondale, Vienna, Giant City and Adams for the top team score.

Marion had just two individual champions. Jonah James won the discus with a personal-best mark of 108 feet and Dyson Roye won the pole vault at 8 feet.

Marion dominated the relays starting with the seventh-grade 800, which Deavon Margrum, Rayzhaun Bardo, Bryson Wilson and Da'Mareon Cooper ran in 1:44.60.

The eighth-grade 800 of Jordan Cook, Jonathan Tucker, Blake Sircher and Hamzah Baker won in 1:42.46. And the 1,600 relay of Nashon Miller, Matthew Cook, Cooper and Sircher won in 4:06.73.

Walker Fox placed second in the mile but ran a personal-best time of 5:11.44. Baker was second in the eighth-grade 100 with a PR time of 11.69 and Cooper was second in the 200 with a PR time of 25.09.

MJHS competes in the seventh-grade conference meet Tuesday and the eighth-grade version on Thursday.
