Pinckneyville makes quick work of Du Quoin

The Pinckneyville Panthers advanced to the finals of the Sparta Class 2A regional tournament Tuesday night,
rolling to a 63-35 win over Du Quoin.
Now 24-5, the Panthers will face Chester or Trico in the regional final Friday.
Du Quoin ends the season at 7-23.
Clayton Houghland scored a game high 30 points and Sam Simpson scored 14 more for Pinckneyville, who scored the first nine points of the game.
"We fouled way too much,'especially early'" said Du Quoin coach Justin Barrington,
"We had to have our kids play a perfect game to win."
   The Panthers scored the first nine points of the game and never trailed.
Grant Jausel scored from the field twice and Simpson marked a quick 9-0 lead.
Pinckneyville led 14-5 after one and stretched the lead to 30-14 by half time.
Houghland scored 18 of his points by half time.
In the third quarter, Simpson scored nine points and Houghland added eight more as the Panthers began to pull away. 
Houghland scored four more points before exiting, adding 11 rebounds.
Caleb Vogel had seven points for Du Quoin. Brock Bullar and Brandon Heape each had six.
