Du Quoin Takes Back-to-Back Losses Over the Weekend

Herrin High School placed three scorers in double figures Saturday night, rolling past Du Quoin 81-62 in Darrell Anders Gym.
Du Quoin  (5-20) has home  games left against Sparta and Anna-Jonesboro this weekend.
Herrin improves to  8-14.
 Junior Caleb Vogel scored a- season best 34 points for the Indians, who fell behind 24-15 as the  first quarter ended.
A late run by Du Quoin, which included back-to-back baskets by  Vogel,  trimmed to lead 42-34 by halftime.
The third quarter, however  belonged  to the Tigers.
 Jake Downen score 10 of 19 during the fray, with Bronson Nesler added eight more.
Nesler finished with   21 points.
 D.J. Spell added 10.
Jacob Wright added 14 points for the Indians.
At Pinckneyville Friday night, the Panthers fell behind early at 3-2  but quickly regrouped.
JC Moll and Clayton Houghland hit back-to-back three's as Pinckneyville forged ahead to
stay.
Du Quoin (5-19, 1-7) kept on fighting and cut the deficit down to three late in the quarter, but
the Panthers answered each time.
Ahead 29-18 by half time, the Panthers began to pull away.
Sam Simpson and Houghland combined for 10 more points for  Pinckneyville (19-6, 7-1 ) as the
Indians could get no  closer.
Houghland finished with a game-high 17 points. Simpson added 14.
Hank Stewart (9 points) and Brandon Heape (8 points) led Du Quoin.
