GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lady Warriors can't keep up with Carterville

Du Quoin got buried in a 17-0 hole to start their SIJHSAA Class L State Quarterfinal game against Carterville, eventually falling 48-24 to end their season on Saturday afternoon at Rend Lake College in Ina.
The Lady Warriors struggled mightily from the field in the opening quarter, getting shut out 15-0.
Bailey Harsy and Elizabeth Bird each hit three-pointers for DMS in the second quarter, but the Lady Warriors still weren't keeping up with the Lions and entered halftime down 28-6.
Du Quoin shot just 5-for-25 at the free throw line in the game.
Harsy led the Lady Warriors with 10 points, Bird and Chloe Prather each had 4, Maya Russell and Madison Gaines each had 2, and Alyiah Waters and Ella Hirsch both finished with 1 point.
Carterville was led by Ashley Beasley with 14 points and Abbey Crain with 13.
The Lions advance on to Tuesday's State Semifinals where they will meet Highland at 7:15 p.m. Mt. Carmel and Collinsville face off in the other Semifinal at 6 p.m. Winners meet in Saturday's championship game at 11 a.m. with the third place game tipping off at 9:30 a.m.
