Betty Jane VanHoorebeke, 92, of Pinckneyville, passed away at 8:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022, at the Washington County Hospital in Nashville, Illinois.

Betty was a homemaker, who also cooked for Gold Plate, the VFW and the American Legion. Betty was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She was born on July 31, 1929, at Tamaroa, the daughter of Aaron Paul and Ariah Isabelle (Opp) Miller.

Betty married Harold Richard VanHoorebeke on Aug. 11, 1946 at Corinth, Mississippi, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1996.

She is survived by four grandchildren, Keith Nickens, Brett Nickens, Wendy Kelly and Rich VanHoorebeke; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Nickens, Sidney Kelly and Cole Kelly; two great-great-grandchildren, Daylan Jane Nickens and Benson Allen Nickens; and one brother, Dick Miller of Pennsylvania. Betty dearly loved her dog, Daisy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard VanHoorebeke; daughter, Alice Faye Flatt; a granddaughter, Erica Lynn VanHoorebeke; two sisters, Bertha Davis and Viola Hitt; and one brother, Aaron Miller Jr..

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Bro. Arven Kirkpatrick officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Visitors are asked to observe social distancing guidelines and everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends are invited to make memorials to the Perry County Humane Society, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
