Robert Lee Strode, 70, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022 at his residence.

In his career, Bob worked for NOTS Trucking, Hicks Oil, Freeman United Coal Company and Kearney Fertilizer. He was of the Baptist faith.

Bob was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion. Bob was a member of the V.F.W. Honor Detail and he loved being an honor guard volunteer. He was also a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed eating at Kalin's Cafe and hunting.

Bob was born on May 9, 1951 at Springfield, Illinois, the son of Robert and Jo Ella (Harlan) Strode. He married Terry L. Moss on Nov. 3, 1973 at Du Quoin, Illinois and she preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 2007.

He is survived by one daughter, Hilary (Bryan) Johnson of Du Quoin; one son, Tim (Krista) Strode of Du Quoin; a brother, Dale Strode of Girard, Illinois; three grandchildren, Ashlyn, Jerzee and Asher; and his dog, Sophie, who he loved.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one daughter, Katie Strode; and three sisters, Kathryn Beam, Alice Marie Heissinger and Susan Martin.

The funeral service will begin at noon on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. The family will conduct the service.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Guests are asked to use social distancing guidelines and everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask.

Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Du Quoin. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion, and the Army National Guard.

Friends are invited to make memorials to the Perry County Humane Society or the Du Quoin V.F.W. Honor Guard and will be accepted at the funeral home.
