Violet Irene Bishop, 91, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:35 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022 at the Carle Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.

Violet worked as a licensed beautician. She was a member of the Sunfield United Methodist Church.

She was born on Aug. 9, 1930 at Du Quoin, Illinois, the daughter of Herschel and Bertie (Farthing) Huggins.

She married Paul Edward "Puge" Bishop on June 24, 1950 at Du Quoin, and he preceded her in death on July 16, 2019.

Violet is survived by three children, Paula (David) Baty of Ohio, John Bishop of Du Quoin, and Scott (Cindy) Bishop of Long Beach, California; one sister, Joyce Clark of Du Quoin; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and six siblings, Emery Huggins, Howard Huggins, Wayne Huggins, Nelson Huggins, Thelma Higgerson and Emma Lee.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Ted Clark officiating.

Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask, and visitors are asked to use social distancing guidelines.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.

Friends are invited to make memorials to the Sunfield United Methodist Church or Gold Plate, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
