Claudia Vaughn Libbie, 75, late of Pope County, Illinois, died peacefully on Nov. 22, 2021, surrounded by family at the home of her daughter.

Claudia was born in Pontiac, Michigan, the daughter of Ross and Marilyn Vaughn, who predeceased her. She spent her formative years in Michigan before moving to Harrisburg, and then eventually to the family farm in Pope County.

She worked for years in human resources at Peabody Coal Company in Shawneetown where she developed many lifelong friends.

She is survived by two children, Camille (Todd) Lambert of Eldorado, and Michael Libbie of St. Louis, Missouri; three brothers, Randy (Leslie) Vaughn of Clarkston, Michigan, Terry (Vicki) Vaughn of Paducah, Kentucky, and Tim Vaughn of Pope County; two sisters, Kathy (Scott) Pursley of Oxford, Mississippi and Jennifer (John) Heal of Tampa, Florida; two grandchildren, Ethan (Erica) Harris of Eldorado and Ross Harris of Eldorado; a special niece who she considered a grandchild, Chelsea Vaughn of Golconda, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, Mattie, Isabelle and Emma; several nieces and nephews; and countless cousins and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Andrew and Claudia Wilson and Alvin and Mattie Vaughn; a brother, Jon Vaughn; and several aunts and uncles.

Claudia loved her family's farm in Pope County and enjoyed spending time outside planting flowers, tending to the yard and feeding her birds and hummingbirds. She was an avid dog lover, and she doted over those she called her own, as well as others who found a way into her home. She loved her family and cherished every minute she could spend with them. She was known by all to be a tough person with a soft persona and a sweet heart who always had a smile on her face.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, Illinois, where friends and family may call after 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Kevin Peyton officiating. Interment will follow at Old Grand Pier Cemetery in rural Pope County.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Hospice of Southern Illinois, which provided her with incredible love and care during her final illness.
