Paul W. Powley, 89, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 11:20 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, 2021 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born to the late Alva Everett "A.E." and Nora Lorraine (nee Welten) Powley on March 7, 1932 in St. Louis.

Paul married Collette Usher on June 27, 1953 at First Baptist Church in Chester; she survives.

Paul owned and operated Superior Cleaner with his brother Ed, and also served as a part-time Chester city police officer for 47 years. He also was the laundry manager at Menard Correctional Center in Chester.

Paul was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester. He was an avid outdoorsmen.

He is survived by his wife, Collette Powley of Chester; three children, Colleen A. Carmon of Pacific, Missouri, Julie L. (Jim) Melchers of Webster Groves, Missouri and Rob (Sue) Powley of Manchester, Missouri; one brother, Carl (Joy) Powley of Highlandville, Missouri; and one grandson, Travis Powley of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ed Powley.

The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church of Chester, with the Rev. Timothy Sims officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Chester.

Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church and St. John Lutheran School.
