Betty Jean Braun, 81, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 2:36 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at her residence.

She was born to the late Ernest and Della (nee Criss) Berndt on Dec 31, 1939 in Chester. Betty married James A. Braun on Feb. 10, 1970 in Murphysboro, Illinois; he preceded her in death on June 4, 2009.

She worked as a cashier at Nordmeyer's IGA grocery store. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church in Chester and the Chester Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Betty also enjoyed sitting on her front porch.

She is survived by two sons, Billy Ray (Linda) Lynn and Jeffery Todd (Sissy) Braun, both of Chester; two sisters, Margaret "Muggsy" and Myrtle Dupo, both of Illinois; four grandchildren, Billy Lynn, Heather (Jason) Korando, Paul (Alice) Cabaniss and Autumn Cabaniss; seven great-grandchildren, Gage, Taylor, Mckenzie, Kynleigh, Ayden, Landen and Deagen; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Bobbie Jean Lynn; five brothers and five sisters.

The memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester, with Dr. Mike Fogerson and Don Berry officiating. Visitation will be held before the service, from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pechacek Funeral Homes.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic School and First Baptist Church, both in Chester.
