Virginia Lee Carrel, 79, of Elkville, passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021 at SSM St. Clair Hospital in Fenton, Missouri.

Virginia was a school bus aide for several years at the Elverado School District. She was of the Christian faith. Virginia was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.

She was born Feb. 5, 1942 at Coulterville, Illinois, the daughter of Louis and Iona (Hamilton) Vuichard.

She is survived by four children, Terri (Karl) Ahner of Dowell, Illinois, Russel (Lana) Carrel of Des Plaines, Illinois, Michael (Teresa) Carrel of Elkville, and Lisa Kaye Jameson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three sisters, Norma Beal of Blytheville, Arkansas, Rose (David) Wayer of Elkville, and Cathy Colcord of Elkville; one brother, William (Eun Suk) Ozbirn of Fort Worth, Texas; three grandchildren, Scott (Kasey) Rees, Teresa (Ryne) Bryant and Ashley (David) Scarborough; five great-grandchildren, Dylan (Brittany) Rees, Kaytlynn Rees, Payton Rees, Johnathan Rees, and David Michael Scarborough; three great-great-grandchildren, Eli, Kasen and Remi; and her beloved cat, Zoey.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ronald Carrel; one brother, Lee Vuichard; and one sister, Mary Durnell.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Friends may call from noon until the time of service on Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Elkville Cemetery at Elkville.

Friends may make memorials to the Elverado School District, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
