James Patrick Greenwood, 77, of Mulkeytown, passed away at 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
James was a lifelong farmer. A member of the United Mine Workers of America, he was also an electrician at Old Ben 24 and Arch of Illinois and a farm manager for Zeigler Coal Company. He was a member of the Heartland Christian Church in Marion and attended Friendship Church of Christ in Tamaroa.
James was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Germany. He loved nature and trees. He had strong Biblical knowledge and a strong love for the Lord.
He was born March 8, 1944 at Chicago, Illinois, the son of James and Mary Catherine (Shortall) Greenwood.
He married Linda L. Brock on Dec. 2, 1967 at the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Mulkeytown; three daughters, Kelly (Steve) Bareis of Du Quoin, Theresa (Jason) Hill of Du Quoin, and Marcy (Jason) Harris of Mulkeytown; two brothers, Jack (Edith) Greenwood and Bob (Theresa) Greenwood, both of Mulkeytown; 11 grandchildren, Alex Ehler, Megan Presswood, Derrick Threadgill, Joshua Ehler, Hope Bareis, Mallory Leek, Grace Marks, Hannah Hill, Alivia Hill, Jamie Bays and Jacob Harris; 12 great-grandchildren, Kierston Ridgeway, Landry Presswood, Tatum Presswood, Kaden Ehler, Jude Leek, Ollie Leek, Crosby Leek, Mariah Marks, Kysen Karch, Emelia Reyes, Emmerson Ehler and Ryker Dale; and one great-grandchild on the way.
James was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Catherine Opp; and a brother-in-law, Bill Opp.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Jacob Harris and Greg Gibbs officiating.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. Everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask and asked to use social distancing guidelines.
Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion, and the Army National Guard.
Friends are invited to make memorials to the Wounded Warriors organization or the Du Quoin V.F.W. Funeral Detail. Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home.
