Gregg Alan Ehlers, 65, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 3:27 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021 at his residence.

He was born to the late Herman and Marilyn (nee Pyron) Ehlers on June 1, 1955 in Red Bud, Illinois.

Gregg married Julie Steelman on April 9, 1988 at Fort Gage in Ellis Grove, Illinois; she survives.

He was a carpenter for 35 years. After retiring from carpentry, Gregg worked in the maintenance department at the Randolph County Courthouse.

Gregg enjoyed dirt bikes and was a firearm enthusiast. He never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to anyone and everyone that he could.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Ehlers of Chester; three children, Nicole (Shannon) Wolff of Chester, Jeff Ehlers of Chester and Steven Ehlers of Carbondale; two sisters, Beth Zappa of Chester and Jill Bert of Chester; two grandchildren, Connor Wolff and Camryn Wolff; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

It was Gregg's wish to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made in Gregg's memory to the Chester Music Patrons and may be sent to Chester High School to the attention of Steve Colonel.
