Jack P. Herschbach, 69, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 4:26 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2020 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born to the late James V. and Doris (nee Roche) Herschbach on March 27, 1951 in Red Bud, Illinois.

Jack was a teacher and coach at Chester High School for 30 years. His calling in life was to coach multiple generations of athletes.

He enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting and was a lifelong lover of Brittany Spaniels. Jack was a member of Ducks Unlimited in Chester and was involved in several coaching organizations. He was a committeeman for Randolph County Democrats and was also heavily involved with the Chester Food Pantry.

Jack was a Boy Scout leader for Chester Troop 305. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chester.

Jack is survived by two sons, Chris Herschbach (Chris Jacobs) and Timothy Herschbach (Alecia Hoyt), all of St. Louis; a daughter, Nessa Herschbach of Chester; one brother, Robert (Rosie) Herschbach of Perryville, Missouri; one grandchild due in 2021; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law Georgia Powell; one brother, James Herschbach; two sisters, Janet Throop and Shirley DeHoff; one sister-in-law, Karen Herschbach; and two brothers-in-law, Red Throop and Fred DeHoff.

A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2020 at New Palestine Cemetery, in Walsh, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 at Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester. The casket will be open for viewing at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday; the casket will be closed at the cemetery.

The funeral home is limited to 25 people in the building at a time, and all visitors must wear masks and use social distancing guidelines.
