Richard Lee Stockwell, 87, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at his residence.

He was born to the late James and Louie (nee Wilson) Stockwell on April 16, 1933 in Chester.

Richard married Glenda Smith on April 13, 1957 in Perryville, Missouri; and she survives.

He worked as an electrician for Menard Correctional Center in Chester for more than 25 years.

He was of the Christian faith. Richard was a lifetime member of VFW Post #3553. He also enjoyed his garden and flowers and loved to watch Chester High School football.

Richard was an Army veteran.

He is survived by Glenda Stockwell of Chester; two children, Kathy (Darrell) Westerman of Chester and Mark (Carol) Stockwell of Ballwin, Missouri; four grandchildren, Blake (Stacy) Stockwell, Brooke Stockwell (Matt), Darric Westerman and Kile (Meghan) Westerman; two great-grandchildren, Oliver Stockwell and Eleanor Westerman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Loretta (Max) Melville, Catherine (Henry) Bargman, Shirley Stockwell, James Stockwell and Everett (Dortha) Stockwell.

The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester, officiated by the Rev. Jim Oppedal.

Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.

Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Pechacek Funeral Homes, Chester.

Pechacek is limited to 50 people in the building at one time. Visitors are asked to wear masks and to use social distancing guidelines.

Memorials in Richard's name are suggested to First United Methodist Church in Chester or to the American Heart Association.
