Wanda Beard, 93, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at the Fairview Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Du Quoin.

Wanda had been a cook at Wheatley School in Du Quoin for several years. She was a member of the Logan Methodist Church. She attended the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church, where she played piano and worked Bible school.

Wanda was born Nov. 10, 1926 at Logan, Illinois, the daughter of Smith and Sylvia (McFarland) Summers.

She married Henry Lyle Beard on May 30, 1946 at Benton, Illinois and he preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 2008.

She is survived by one son, David Beard of Du Quoin; one daughter, Brenda (Ron) Gibbons of Tamaroa; and nieces and nephews.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Billie Summers.

Graveside services will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020 at the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin with Rev. Ted Clark officiating.

Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus and by the signing of executive order by Gov. J.B. Pritzker, attendance will be limited and social distancing will be enforced.

Friends are invited to make memorials to the Fairview Rehabilitation and Healthcare Activity Department; these will be accepted at the funeral home.
