Carolyn Groves of Marion

Carolyn June Groves, 85, of Marion, passed away peacefully at 6:29 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2020, at her home with her family by her side.

Carolyn was born in Creal Springs on June 11, 1935, the daughter of William Loyd and Ruby (Robertson) Kelley. She graduated from Marion High School, a member of the "Class of 1952." Carolyn was retired from the Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. after many years of service in the Insurance and Risk Management Industry.

Carolyn was a devoted wife and mother, who deeply and dearly loved her family, and she was deeply and dearly loved by her family. Her children were the light of her life, and she never hesitated to care for and show her devotion.

She married Bobby Dean Groves in Marion on Oct. 18, 1957. Together, they shared 55 years of marriage, until his passing on Nov. 6, 2012.

She is survived by a daughter, Terri L. Groves, Ph.D., a retired teacher from the Marion School District; and a son, Robert Dane Groves, who is a Senior Enrollment Adviser at Pearson Online Education of Chicago. She is also survived by two sisters, Louise Nicholson of Harrisburg and Rose Kelley of Marion; a brother, Edward Leon (Lucy) Kelley of Murphysboro; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Lillian Kelley and one niece, Vicky Nicholson.

Arrangements were entrusted to Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home of Marion. The family will hold a private graveside service at County Line Cemetery in Creal Springs with Pastor John Hackmann officiating.
