Betty Jean Gillespie, age 85, of Harrisburg, passed away at 9:35 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18, 2019 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Betty was born on June 4, 1934 in Harrisburg to the late Chester and Genevieve (Whitehead) Winston.
On Nov. 3, 1956 she married Arthur Gillespie Jr. and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2018.
Betty was a member of Harvest Deliverance Center. She loved to play tennis and she was an avid reader, especially her Bible. She was a God-fearing wife, mother and grandmother.
Betty is survived by two sons, Andrew (Jessica) Gillespie of Temecula, California and Arthur Winston Gillespie III of Elgin; four grandchildren, Savannah Gillespie and Jacen Gillespie of Temecula, California and Christian Gillespie and Amber Gillespie of Elgin; 13 great-grandchildren, Alanna, Ayanna, Xavier, Autumn, Aubrie, Angelica, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Jaden, Elijah, Amaria, Saniya and Cherish; two sisters, Iva Crittenden of Carrier Mills and Sharon Young of Bellwood; several nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Charles (Betty) Mason of Harrisburg.
In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by two sisters, Venita Leach and in infancy, Jackie.
Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Ownly Williams will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Garden Cemetery.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
