MURPHYSBORO -- Joanna Skobel, 86, formally of Murphysboro, passed away in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis at 4:38 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017.

Joanna was born in East Prairie, Missouri, on Aug. 17, 1931, to Robert Homer and Mabel Leon (Martin) Presson. She married Billie E. Groves on June 11, 1949 in Piggott, Arkansas. He passed away on May 10, 1987.

She married Wayne Skobel on March 10, 1990 in De Soto and he passed away Jan. 18, 2014.

She's also preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Linda J. West. who died on Jan. 2, 2012.

Joanna was a member of First Baptist Church in Murphysboro where she enjoyed many friends and considered them as an extended family. She had a giving and compassionate heart and will be truly missed.

She is survived by her daughter Alane (David) Renner of Bethalto, and son-in-law William D. West Jr. of De Soto; three granddaughters, Joanna (Jason) Ferrell of Marion, Kendra (John) Payton of Edwardsville, and Ashley (Matthew) Wieneke of Alton; grandson Paul (Cheri) West of Carterville; seven great-grandchildren, Garrett, Landon and Aaron Ferrell of Marion, Bailey, and Madelynn West of Carterville, and Logan and Samuel Payton of Edwardsville; and brother-in-law Rick (Karen) Weisenstein of De Soto.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, De Soto, officiated by Pastor Shaker Samuel.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Jan. 6, 2018 until service time at the church. Interment will follow at De Soto Cemetery. Memorials can be made to either Liberty Estates or First Baptist Church of Murphysboro and will be accepted at the church or funeral home.
