CARBONDALE -- Gary Dean Hall, 60 of Carbondale, passed away, Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017 in St. Clair Hospital in Fenton, Missouri.

He was born Dec. 15, 1956 in Carbondale to Alden and Ellen (Simms) Hall. Gary married Cynthia Berkel on May 14, 2011.

He graduated from Carbondale High School. He worked for McCloud Communications in Mattoon. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed French Revolution War re-enactment and making toy models.

Gary's greatest joy was being a great husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Hall of Carbondale; children, Izaak Berkel and Meghen Berkel, both of Carbondale; grandchildren, Levi, Alivia and Xavier Berkel, all of Carbondale; a sister, Cheryl (Roger) Smith of Carbondale; nephews, Roger Smith III of Murphysboro and Clinton Hall of Jerseyville; nieces, Courtney Smith of Chicago and Caitlin Hall of Jerseyville; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Michael Hall and Kenneth Hall.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Gary Dean Hall will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. In-Sook Hwang and Roger Smith officiating.

Inurnment will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery in Oakland.

Memorials can be made to the Boy Scouts of America and will be accepted at the funeral home and the memorial service.
