RALEIGH -- Wilma E. Sloan, 92, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017, in Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.

Wilma was born Sept. 17, 1924, to Herschel and Effie (Hedges) Hicks.

She married Charles Ray Sloan on Sept. 19, 1944, and he preceded her in death in January 1994.

Wilma was a longtime member of Long Branch Baptist Church in Galatia. For the past 13 years, she has been a member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina.

She was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Survivors include two children, Dena (Jim) Hayes of Raleigh and Dale (Martha) Sloan of Summerfield, North Carolina; grandchildren, Lori McGuire, Sara (Tim) Boulds, Rachel (Michael) Boulds, Charmin Sloan and Ginger Boyd; great grandchildren, Matthew (Abby), Benjamin and Kaitlyn McGuire, Samantha, Laura, Joseph, Mary, Michael and Catherine Boulds, Alysha (Dakota) McGowen, Mikaylah and Jason Boulds, Angela and Trevor DeMoss and Makenzie and Madeline Boyd; great-great-grandchild, Koltin McGowen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Sadie (Woodrow) Sanders, Edna (Forrest) Cluck and June (Jack) Burgess; grandson-in-law, Mark McGuire; and great-grandson, John William Boulds.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 21, in Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with the Rev. Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Durham Cemetery in Galatia. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Durham Cemetery.
