Power Red donor

  • Katie Walls of Percy donates blood at the Red Cross Blood Drive Wednesday, April 13, at the Chester American Legion. Walls has been donating blood since high school when she donated at an FBLD Blood Drive in Steeleville. Here Walls is donating via the Power Red procedure, which uses the special machine shown to extract two units of red blood cells during one donation while returning the plasma and platelets to the donor. This procedure lets donors give more of the red blood cells needed by most patients, and is safe for donors because they don't lose the liquid portion of the blood.
