MARION -- A Marion man has been found guilty of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a class X felony, and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a class 2 felony.

David I. Blue, 44, was found guilty on Sept. 10 following a three-day trial and faces up to sixty years in the Illinois Department of Corrections

Blue was charged in February 2020 following an investigation led by the Marion Police Department suggested that Blue had committed the offenses against a child under the age of 13 between March 2018 and October 2019.

Eight witnesses testified during the trial, including the victim, who testified with the aid of the State's Attorney support dog Zoey.

Blue was taken into custody immediately following the verdict. He will be held until sentencing, which is scheduled for Oct. 18.

"This was a very difficult case, as sexual assaults of children are some of the worst cases we have to handle," said State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti. "We hope this verdict brings a sense of justice to the victim and her family."
