MARION -- Mark Schultz made Marion Cultural and Civic Center history again on Saturday.

Schultz, a contemporary Christian music artist and Dove Award winner, was the first performer to grace the stage following construction of the new MCCC in 2004.

On March 13, 2020, Schultz was the last artist to play before a live audience when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the MCCC to close its doors to live audiences.

On Saturday, Schultz was the first performer to play a live audience as the MCCC opened to a live audience of about 400.

"It was exciting to have the energy in the building again," said MCCC Executive Director Josh Benson. "We happy to be able to serve the community again the way we were intended to."

Benson said there are more plans in the works in the coming weeks including the Miss Illinois pageant later this month and Joe Nichols on July 8.

The Mark Schultz concert was sponsored by WBVN radio.
