RIDGWAY -- Ridgway American Legion Post 596, VFW Post 5508 Commander Mark Chancey and Shawnee Forest Chapter NSDAR members Linda Chancey and Christy Short joined together prior to Memorial Day to honor Gallatin County veterans.

The two groups met and placed numerous American flags at the grave sites of veterans resting in the Campground Cemetery in Ridgway.

According to Shawnee Forest DAR Regent Lisa Thomas, the reason we commemorate Memorial Day is to memorialize the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

We spend time remembering those who lost their lives and could not come home, reflecting on their service and why we have the luxury and freedom that we enjoy today.
