ANNA -- Beginning April 9, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, and Southern Illinois native, Dr. Richard Morgan, will start seeing patients at Anna Rural Health Inc. In a collaboration between Heartland Regional Medical Group and Union County Hospital, Morgan brings decades of experience treating patients in Southern Illinois.
As the region's population continues to age and health care needs change, Morgan feels now is the ideal time to offer his skills, knowledge, and experience in Union County.
"The need for local, orthopedic surgery is felt in every community," Morgan said. "It's important for the well-being of Southern Illinois to have competent orthopedic surgeons in the area to take care of orthopedic needs. It's a real hardship on families to go to St. Louis or Cape Girardeau, so it's essential we provide these types of services right here in Anna."
A longtime Marion resident, Morgan helped transform the regional health care landscape as co-founder of the Southern Illinois Orthopedic Center, in Herrin. In November of 2000, Morgan's practice, Marion Orthopedics, merged with Southern Orthopedic Associates to form, what is now known as, the Orthopedic Institute of Southern Illinois.
"Our goal is to help reduce your pain and get you back to your active life as quickly as possible," Morgan said. "We employ a range of nonsurgical and surgical procedures that include the arthroscopic approach, which is less invasive than traditional surgeries and typically results in less pain, fewer complications, minimal scarring and faster recovery time."
A graduate of the University of Illinois School of Medicine, Morgan completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the U of I Hospital in Chicago. Currently, he is a member of the American Medical Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Chicago Orthopedic Society, Bi-County Medical Society, Central Illinois Orthopedic Society and Illinois Orthopedic Society.
