MARION -- The Marion community has come together to support the family of one of its own.

It's been just over a week since the body of Chief Wastewater Plant Operator David Williams was recovered in a treated storage pond at the city's wastewater treatment facility about three hours after he had been reported missing.

Williams leaves behind his wife, Stephanie, and two sons, Lucas and Evan.

A GoFundMe set up by Randy Johnson was just shy of $8,000 on Monday afternoon. That fundraiser is available online at https://gofund.me/95b5b055.

A spaghetti dinner will be held at the Marion Elks on Mar. 3 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Watermark has agreed to match donations up to $7,500.

Last Monday, the City of Marion issued a statement honoring Williams.

"David was more than just a dedicated employee, and his legacy will continue to be honored through the brotherhood and sisterhood of his co-workers and the enormous impact he had on his community through his Second Baptist Church family. David was the ultimate example of a family man. He dedicated his life to caring for his family, his work family, and building a legacy that will never be forgotten. The City of Marion mourns his tragic loss alongside his family and his co-workers."

Funeral services for Williams are today at 11 a.m. Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
