POPE COUNTY -- Investigators combed an area in northern Pope County over the weekend near a spot where a missing Harrisburg woman was last seen in 2019.

Pope County Sheriff Jerry Suits confirmed that his department along with Illinois State Police investigators searched the area near the Union Association Church Camp near Delwood, but said he could not discuss additional details currently.

"There have been some items found and sent to the Illinois State Police crime lab," Suits said. "Hopefully, we'll get some results soon."

Suits said he could not confirm what was found during the investigation.

In September 2019, Kimberly Stewart-Whittington of Harrisburg disappeared near the area. Witnesses said they saw a woman matching Stewart-Whittington's description walking along Illinois 145 near the driveway of the church camp.

Family members and the Pope County Sheriff's department conducted an extensive search for Stewart-Whittington in the area but could not locate her.
