Franklin Hospital in Benton has announced that Dr. David Cox, general surgeon, will be starting his practice in November. The practice in Benton is located at 201 Bailey Lane, second floor.
"With the addition of Dr. Cox as our board certified general surgeon, Franklin Hospital will continue with our mission to provide the residents of Franklin County with high quality surgical care. We are committed to being your healthcare leader," said Franklin Hospital District CEO Jim Johnson.
Cox obtained his bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry and was then accepted to Medical School at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He completed his residency at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Grand Forks, N.D. Upon the completion of his residency, he has practiced as a general and trauma surgeon in Colorado for the past 11 years. He has since completed an MBA in health administration.
As a general surgeon, Dr. Cox's scope of practice includes but is not limited to:
• General surgery (with special interest in minimally invasive general surgery-abdominal reconstruction and endoscopy)
• Amputations
• Appendectomy
• Central venous access surgery (port A catheter, mediports) cholecystectomy (gall bladder)
colectomy, bowel and colon resection
• Colonoscopy
• Diagnostic laparoscopy hemorrhoidectomy
• Hernia repair (laparoscopic and open) skin cancer surgery
Cox is a member of the American College of Surgeons and will host clinic and provide surgical services on Tuesdays and Fridays. In his free time, Dr. Cox enjoys playing one of his Stratocaster guitars, riding motorcycles and paragliding.
