Each spring, the SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary in Mt. Vernon awards scholarships to a designated number of high school seniors who live in the hospital's service area. As required, each scholarship recipient has committed to pursuing a health care-related career path. Two went to students from Benton.
A $750 Warren-Holler scholarship was awarded to Jayla Eubanks, who graduated from Benton Consolidated High School and plans to attend Rend Lake College to pursue a degree in nursing.
Another $750 scholarship was awarded to Mady Darr, who also graduated from BCHS. She will be attending Rend Lake College, working toward physician's assistant credentials in the field of dermatology.
