Du Quoin area briefs: Outdoor book sale coming July 25

Used book sale in Keyes Park July 25
The Du Quoin Public Library and Marshall Browning Hospital will co-host a book sale, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 25 in Keyes Park. All items will be 50 cents. The sale will have lots of books , paperback and hardcover, and some DVDs, plus a story time for children (with puppets) and ice cream sandwiches. Some of the books are ones removed from the Du Quoin Library collection; others are books in good condition that have been donated by the public. Want to donate books? There is still time; call the library and arrange for a curbside donation.

Centerstone wins grant extension
Centerstone has been awarded a $2 million extension from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to a grant awarded in late 2018. Since the grant was first implemented in 2019, Centerstone has done the following among its own clients: Decreased homelessness by 56%; lowered rate of incarceration by 70%; decreased number of clients going to area ERs for mental health issues by 58%; and lowered client involvement with the criminal justice system by 75%. Centerstone works with about 13,000 people each year -- adults, children and veterans in southern Illinois and the Metro East area.
