Illinois Department of Transportation personnel are on-site this week at the scene of mine subsidence near the Franklin-Hamilton county line.

IDOT says road construction began earlier this week on Rt. 14 near Macedonia to west of Ewing Road. Personnel are making temporary repairs to the roadway, and permanent repairs will be ongoing through sometime in 2021.

IDOT says motorists will encounter uneven pavement and bumps throughout the duration of the work. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and controlled by flaggers intermittently throughout the work zone. Message boards and signs will be in place to alert the motoring public of any change in road conditions.

Motorists should reduce speed, be alert to equipment and workers, and use extreme caution while traveling through the work zone. To avoid any delays, motorists should seek an alternate route. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the work zone as quickly as possible.
