HARRISBURG -- Harrisburg Medical Center is pleased to announce the reopening of our surgical services for elective case patients.

HMC began performing elective surgical cases May 12 under the guidance of the Illinois Department of Public Health. Because we are focused on protecting our patients and staff members, the number of surgical cases being performed are at a slower pace to help prevent possible exposure to COVID-19.

We are taking extra safety measures in our operating and recovery rooms to ensure the safety of our patients and employees. We have made important changes to our policies and protocols regarding how we conduct business to ensure everyone's safety and well-being.

Steps are also being taken to meet Illinois Department of Public Health requirements on personal protective equipment supply, infection control, and support services.

All patients are being tested for COVID-19 a few days before their scheduled procedure and are screened upon entry into the facility. All patients, staff, members and visitors are required to wear masks upon entering our facility or clinics. For those who do not have a mask, one will be provided.

We appreciate the support and understanding of everyone as we adapt to a new normal in providing quality health care to our communities we serve.

Thank you for allowing us to serve you and your families health care needs for the past 55 years.

Your health: our mission. Thank you for choosing Harrisburg Medical Center.
