Save your calories for Pie Day on Pi Day
First Methodist Church in Du Quoin will be back next month with another classic Pie Day. From 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 (that's Pi Day in the U.S.) come to the church at 25 N. Washington St. for a $3 slice of homemade pie and a cup of coffee or tea. Add a scoop of ice cream for $1. Or you can preorder a whole pie for $12. Chocolate, coconut, pecan, apple or cherry. Last day to preorder pies is Friday, March 6. To order, call Jeannie at (618) 318-9693 or (618) 542-3061.

Du Quoin's Rea wins regional recognition
Du Quoin Elementary School Principal Diana Rea has been named the Egyptian Region's principal of the year and is now a contender for Illinois Principal of the Year, which will be announced in early March. The annual tribute is through the Illinois Principal's Association. Rea will considered along with the other regional winners throughout the state.

New hires for D300
On Thursday, the school board approved new hires and appointments:
• KyLee Sizemore as a dual licensed elementary teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.
• Brittany Goldman as a middle school language arts teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.
• Luke Shaffer as high school music education/band teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.
• Bailie Caldwell and Sadie Day as assistant softball coaches for the 2020 high school softball season.
• Nicole Jackson was approved as a volunteer for the 21st Century program.

Gauge your colon cancer risk with test
March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and Marshall Browning Hospital is giving away free take-home screening kits that include free shipping and lab testing. On Friday, March 13, drive under the hospital's entrance canopy between 11 a.m.-1 p.m. or 4-5 p.m. and a staff member will bring a kit out to your car. This fecal occult blood test will not determine if you have colorectal cancer, but it will tell you if further testing is recommended.
