HARRISBURG -- Community members gathered Monday for Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church's annual reflection on the work of Martin Luther King Jr.
Pastor Torrence Davis of East Washington Street Church of God in Carrier Mills delivered a powerful message, honoring King for his legacy in the civil rights movement, while praising God for providing people with courage, determination and salvation. Those in the audience shouted out amens and other praises as the sermon was given.
After the sermon, church member Pat Hodge thanked the many people who volunteered to help put on the program, which has been a part of the community now for 18 years.
"A lot of people made this possible, and I appreciate each and every one," Hodge said.
The program also featured a brunch, music and a proclamation signing by Harrisburg Mayor John McPeek.
