New contracts inked for Unit 2 superintendent, MHS principal

MARION -- Unit 2 Superintendent Keith Oates and Marion High School Principal Joey Ohnesorge both had new contracts approved by the Board of Education at its regular meeting on Tuesday evening.

Following a closed session, the board emerged with a 7-0 vote on the contracts. Oates new contract runs until June 30, 2023 while the agreement for Ohnesorge is set to expire on Sept. 30, 2023.

In other personnel matters, the board with President John Barwick and members Brandi Bradley, Cindy Gibbons, Patti Bundren, Joseph Bleyer, B.W. Bruce and Steve Cook, voted unanimously to:

• employ Susan Krapf and Mark Wayer as part-time elementary instrumental music instructors

• employ Shelly Dunaway as part-time interim director of nursing

• employ Rachel Garrett as district bookkeeper

• employ Jessie Crabtree as volunteer MJHS assistant girls basketball coach and Mykel Gary, volunteer assistant wrestling coach, effective immediately

• accept the resignations of Elizabeth Oliphant, Aftercats at Jefferson Elementary, Randi Pinkston, nurse at MJHS, and Raelynn Reynolds, district nursing supervisor and health careers teacher

• approve the retirement of Lisa Ragan, head cook assigned at Jefferson Elementary, effective May 21, 2020

In a separate 6-1 vote, with Bleyer as a "no," the boarded accepted the retirement of Nancy Smolak, kindergarten teacher at Jefferson Elementary, effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year.
