The crack of the bat rang through the air at the Benton Community Park on Saturday as nine teams battled for the top spot in the second-annual Whiffle Ball Tournament.

The event, sponsored by the Benton Rotary Club, included nine teams, music, food vendors, and even bouncy houses for the kids.

It drew a crowd of about 200.

"There were a lot of children," said Dave Cooper, who handles public relations for the Rotary.

The team sponsored by SCD Rea and Sons took the top spot in the tournament. The team members were Matthew Thery, Bradley Phillips, and Billy Owens.

The Franklin Hospital Scrubs took second place.

Cooper said funds from the event go back to the community.

"Rotary donates to various charities during the year," he said. "We give all that money back to different groups."

The Rotary club is an international service organization that brings together business and professional leaders in order to provide service and advance goodwill. The guiding principle is to develop friendships as an opportunity for service. The Rotary motto is "Service above Self."
