It was obvious that both the boys and girls Carbondale Terrier track teams were just too packed with talent to not be factors in their respective South Seven Outdoor meets.

Thus it was two weeks ago with the girls blasting all challengers, and this week doing well at the sectionals.

The same can be said for the boys team that edged nearby Marion 135-120 last Friday for their South Seven Conference title. The boys used their great set of sprinters to take the 4X100 relay meter event in a record 43.3 seconds.

The boys also took second in the 4X200 meter event in 1:42.13. Individually, Isaac Martin ran a 11.67 100 meters, and football player deluxe Shandon Scott-Rivers also placed with a 11.96 on a cold and blustery day in Centralia.

Another Terrier football star, Jakeba Burley, won the long jump with a hop of 20 feet even. He also was featured among the relay team winners.

Earlier last week, the Terrier boys JV team showed some star power in their conference meet, indicating that the Terriers will be barking in the 2020 varsity outdoor season, too.

Carbondale JV sprinters took first and second in both the 100- and 200-meter events and won the 300 hurdles and 4X200 relay. Novie Holiday and A'niyah Black finished one and two in the shot put.

The ladies traveled to Troy to show their stuff in the 2A sectional.

Of course, powerhouse East St. Louis took the meet, but the Terrier ladies did not disappoint -- especially the sprinters. Carbondale's ladies replicated the men's dominance plus some by winning both the 4X100 and 4X200 meter relays at their sectional. One of the main reasons for the feat was college prospect Keona Love. Love beat out a fleet East St. Louis athlete in the 100 meters. Love ran a great 12.52 seconds in cold conditions. Kiara Cobb was second in the event.

Terrier freshman phenom Serenity Riley was forth in the varsity meet with 13.11 seconds in the 100. The relay teams consisted of Love, Akira Custer, Zoie Sanders and Cobb.

Custer also qualified for state by running a 58.75-second 400 meters. And in the distances, Madeline Prideaux took second in the 1600-meter run with a state-qualifying 5:31.75 seconds.

In the field events at the ladies' sectional, Sydney Apgar qualified for state in both the shot and discus events.
