MARION -- Spring is here, and if you're a Marion resident who has been busy lately raking up dead leaves and other yard debris in preparation of the greening of your lawns, remember that the city offers a free yard waste dump on the south side.

Longtime Marion resident Paul Reed, 70, was spotted there this week, taking advantage of this municipal service.

"Oh, I use this site quite a bit, especially in the spring," he said. "Today, I'm just helping out my neighbor by getting rid of the tree and bush trimmings that he had piled up."

Frank Slivinski, 77, also uses the site to dispose of his yard waste.

"I've used this service each spring ever since I moved to Marion six years ago," he said.

Open to Marion residents only, the Marion yard waste dump is open from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
