New decorations going up; Du Quoin tree lighting ceremony is Nov. 30

The holiday season is about to get underway in Du Quoin.

As newly purchased decorations go up in the downtown area, the city is making plans for the annual tree lighting ceremony, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30 on Main Street. The city also will light the nativity scene at the same time.

In addition, Mayor Guy Alongi said the city will be playing Christmas music in the downtown area from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day through the holiday season.

The "Cookies with Santa" event will take place Thursday, Dec. 14.
