The village of Tamaroa will spend about $60,000 to repair a troubled road that was heavily damaged during spring flooding.
At their July 12 meeting, Tamaroa trustees learned about the price tag to repair Woodcock Road, a 1,250-foot section of which is damaged so badly that oil-and-chipping reportedly won't help alone.
The estimated price to repair the road is $60,000 from the village limits to the water line. The village also has used 480 tons of rock building the base to date.
Chuck Zoeckler from the utility department reported that the oil and chipping will start Aug. 1. The money for the project has already been approved and set aside out of Motor Fuel Tax funds. The village will be paying about $28 a ton for the chipping aggregate and $2.04 a gallon for the oil.
The utility department also reported that the city of Pinckneyville paid the village about $4,000 for water during the May rains.
Trustee Place informed the board that the Rend Lake Water District has raised its rates, and water customers will see a rate increase with the next billing cycle.
A new automatic water payment machine was discussed for the automatic water vending (bulk water sales) for residents and farmers, since the village is having keeping the current payment machine working. Trustee Place recommended getting a new machine with a credit card feature to allow an additional method for payment.
Pat Nichols and Jason Ashmore from Teamsters Local 50 were in attendance to discuss Ordinance 588, wherein the laborers employed by the village will be union employees and thereby paid the prevailing union wage. The board announced it would have an executive session to discuss who would negotiate matters between the employees and the union.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9.
