A two-vehicle collision on Illinois 149 about a quarter mile east of Parrish Circle Road in Franklin County sent one victim to the hospital and the other driver to jail.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones, officers from his department as well as West Frankfort police and fire departments responded to the call around 3:55 p.m. Wednesday.
Jones said a 1998 Dodge Durango driven by Chad H. Barnett, 41, of West Frankfort was driving eastbound when he crossed into the westbound lane and struck a Chevy Cobalt driven by Rena J. Berquez, 76, of Zeigler.
Barnett fled the scene and attempted to hide from law enforcement officers, according to Jones. He was apprehended about ¾ miles from the scene of the crash and arrested. Jones said Barnett has been charge with leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, which is a felony.
"This is still under investigation, but we expect him (Barnett) to be charged with felony DUI," said Jones, adding that more charges may be pending.
Berquez had to extricated from her vehicle by the West Frankfort Fire Department. She was transported to Herrin Hospital with major injuries.
Barnett was transported to the Franklin County Jail.
