MARION - The listing agreement between the ownership group of the Illinois Star Centre Mall and Tranzon Asset Advisor of Elizabethtown, Kentucky has expired and was not renewed.

"We have not yet chosen another firm," said mall spokesman Dennis Ballinger, himself part of the ownership group. "However, we have spoken to several other potential purchasers who have signed non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), and we are very optimistic."

Carl Carter, public relations spokesman for Tranzon, confirmed that the contract was not renewed and said he wishes the Marion mall ownership well in its quest to find a buyer.

The mall has been for sale since last fall.

Ballinger said there has been interest shown in the facility.

"One potential buyer submitted several questions to us that we could not (initially) answer, so we are working very hard at trying to find the answers to all the questions. And we have asked the City of Marion to help us answer some of the questions."

Ballinger said the ownership group remains confident that it will find a buyer in the months ahead.

"We are very optimistic that we shall eventually find a buyer," he said.

Ballinger added that there are absolutely no plans to close the mall.

"We haven't even considered the possibility of any type of closure," he said.
