Police on Monday released new details about an attempted murder in Du Quoin that resulted in the arrest of a local man Sunday morning in Carbondale.
Du Quoin Police said they received a phone call around 7:03 a.m. Saturday morning from Sherry Dunn, 70, of Du Quoin, who reported she had been attacked at her residence at 224 E. Parker St. Her assailant was identified as Trayvon A. Johnson, 31.
Officers Rustin Juhl and Will Denton arrived at the residence and spoke with Dunn, at which time the Pinckneyville Ambulance Service was requested on scene. A short time later, Det. Sgt. Steve Ingram and Det. Phil Schimanski arrived at Marshall Browning Hospital to interview Dunn.
Following the interview, the detectives requested and received an arrest warrant for Johnson charging him with attempted first degree murder, home invasion, aggravated battery, armed robbery and residential burglary. Bond on the warrant was set at $1 million.
At 1:12 a.m. Sunday, personnel with the Carbondale Police Department located and arrested Johnson on the Perry County warrant. Johnson was transported to the Jackson County Jail.
Du Quoin Police Chief Jamie Ellermeyer thanked Carbondale Police for assisting and conducting the arrest.
