Despite a slow-start Tuesday evening, the Lady Indians' bats came alive to lead a comeback win over the Goreville Lady Bearcats, 10-7.
Mackenzie Jackson struggled out of the gate on the mound, surrendering three-first inning runs on three hits including a two-run home run.
The Lady Bearcats tacked on two more runs in the top of the third, both unearned due to a pair of errors from the Lady Indians defense.
But, Du Quoin responded.
Katie Smith got things going in the bottom of the third with a lead-off single. Jackson followed suit with a single of her own.
Sadie Day and Chloe Hill kept things going with back-to-back RBI singles to put the Lady Indians on the board, trailing 5-2.
Grace Haney followed up with the Du Quoin's fifth straight single of the inning to load the bases up with no outs.
Meryn Gross hit a grounder to third in the next at bat, rolling underneath the glove of the Goreville third baseman, allowing Day and Hill to come around to score to cut the lead to just one, 5-4.
Goreville managed to get out of the inning from there unscathed, but it didn't slow down the Du Quoin offense.
Jackson gave her team the lead in the fourth, drilling a triple to right-center, scoring Smith who reached on an infield single. Goreville's attempt to throw out Jackson ended up in the Lady Indian dugout, awarding Jackson home plate to give them their first lead of the game 6-5.
Du Quoin did not let up, tacking on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth, tallying four more runs with RBI's from Hill, Avery Shively (2) and Kat Robinson to close out the inning ahead 10-5.
The Insurance runs proved to be crucial, as Goreville scored two runs in the seventh, but fell just short as the Lady Indians completed the comeback win 10-7.
Jackson picked up the complete-game win, allowing just two more in her final four innings of work, picking up her third win in the first five games of the season.
The Lady Indians (4-1) will continue action Wednesday evening at home, hosting West Frankfort at 4:30 p.m.
