A single vehicle accident on the northwest side of the Benton square at 5:30 a.m. Saturday took out a gas meter and a light pole. The area was evacuated for about 3 1/2 hours, according to local authorities.
Fire and EMA officials evacuated the area due to gas vapors in the area of Seasons Bistro restaurant.
There are several apartments in the upstairs portion of the building, although it is not known if anyone was at home when the accident occurred.
Police are seeking information about the vehicle's occupant, which apparently fled the scene after the accident.
